The functions of a HHA / CNA are to monitoring and recording patient condition, provide support and personal services, and teach families. Supports and personal services include housekeeping and laundry, preparing and serving meals, running errands, bathing, dressing, and grooming. Education includes special techniques for personal hygiene, mobility, eating, nutirition, etc. Records patient information by making entries in the patient journal and notifying nursing supervisor of changing or unusual conditions.
High School Diploma or GED, CPR/FA, 1 & 2 (within 6-12 months of hire), and CPI certification preferred. Any other state-mandated certifications.
At least 21 years old. Minimum 1+ year(s) professional or personal experience.
Ability to cook, clean, record patient condition, educate patient and family members. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, patients and their families, and management.
Reliable transportation. Must have a valid in-state driver’s license, provide current registration and insurance.
Must consent to and pass a criminal history check and employee misconduct registry check.
Environment and Working Conditions
By working in a client’s residence, you may experience various conditions such as exposure to body fluids, infectious diseases, and unpleasant weather. As a HHA / CNA, you must be capable of working in flexible schedules and willing to travel locally.
Physical and Mental Effort
A HHA / CNA is required to stand and walk for long hours and work under stressful conditions. An HHA / CNA must also have the capability to lift up to 50 pounds and able to move or transfer clients. Hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and ability to use different medical equipment are also necessary for this job.
